Description

The Middle East Branch of the Railway Correspondence and Travel Society was founded in April, 1943, by C. K. Dunkley, R. K. King and C. W. Atkin. Its meetings at‘ Music for All,” Sharia Maruf, Cairo, preserved in the land of the Nile the pre-war Friday evening Club night traditions of the Society and enabled many members to meet and pursue their interests in both Home and Middle East Railways. Many excursions of railway interest were also organised, and these helped considerably to alleviate the monotony of the continued wartime exile of many enthusiasts.

This booklet gathered together what was known about the extensive fleets of locomotives in Egypt and then-Palestine, which had been sourced from Britain, Germany, France, the USA and elsewhere.  Also covers information about railcars, shed, works, and the Cairo Railway Museum.
